May 11 – Kate’s art ROCKS!
June 8 – Let’s get physical with art!
Inspired by the Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games, families will create action paintings. This is a fun technique where paint is applied in a unique way like splashed, thrown, or poured. The style was created by Jackson Pollock, and his nickname was Action Jackson! Although we don’t have any Jackson Pollock paintings at SUMA, families can experiment with using unconventional tools like marbles and rubber bands to apply paint to their canvas. Be prepared to get messy at the June Family Day!
July 13 – To collage or not to collage that is the question!
Families will create collages inspired by Karl Momen’s artwork, on display in the Rocki Alice Gallery. Momen was inspired by several William Shakespeare plays and created a series of paintings about them. Some of the artwork directly relates to two plays being produced by the Utah Shakespeare Festival this season: Macbeth and Hamlet. Through collage, families can explore symbolism in art, and Shakespeare, and create to develop their own ideas.
August 10 – Back to School pARTy!
