Cedar Breaks National Monument Summer Star Party held 8:00 pm – 10:30 pm at Point Supreme Overlook (Cedar Breaks National Monument), park fees apply ($7). Join park rangers for a night sky program and star party every Saturday night (Memorial Day-Labor Day, Sept & Oct staff permitting) at Point Supreme. Beginning shortly before sunset, rangers lead a presentation on a night-sky related topic. As the skies darken, you’ll have a chance to get an up-close look at celestial wonders (such as the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, star clusters, and nebulae) through several large telescopes. Rangers also lead constellations tours and immerse you in star stories and mythology.
No reservations are needed. Dress warmly and bring a red flashlight if you have one. No white flashlights or cell phone lights are allowed. You may also wish to bring a camp chair as seating for the talk is limited. Telescope viewing may be cancelled due to cloud cover or storms. In the event of inclement weather, rangers will lead an indoor astronomy program at the Ranger Station (~300 yards south of the Information Center). Additional star parties are held for meteor showers and other special events, so check at the visitor center for a current schedule. For information call 435-586-0787 ext 4031 or visit www.nps.gov/cebr. *weather permitting*
