“We will cheer for the red and white, for our fighting SUU!”
Grab that red shirt from your closet and brush up on the SUU fight song because it’s homecoming weekend in Cedar City! Before our favorite SUU T-birds take on Cal Poly (Saturday @ 6:00 pm) we recommend taking the T-Bird tour of Cedar City. Experience all of the homecoming week events, T-bird themed foods, and the best of Cedar City by following the suggestions below.
Attend as MANY Homecoming Events as You Can
Homecoming week is packed full of events that you don’t want to miss. From Forever Red to the Homecoming Parade and a Pancake Breakfast Southern Utah University pulls out all the stops! You can find a full schedule of events (and anything else you need to know about homecoming at SUU) by clicking here.
Take a Stroll and Have a Picnic on Campus
Southern Utah University has a beautiful campus any time of year. Pines and Aspens line every sidewalk and statues can be found in groves and dedicated areas. If you’re looking for somewhere to take a walk and enjoy some pretty scenery, campus is the perfect place to be.
Experience Cedar City through a T-Bird Foodie Tour
Suu T-Birds said it best themselves; “a few Cedar City restaurants are taking advantage of Southern Utah University’s close proximity and showing their school pride with special menu items dedicated to T-Birds. Next time you are looking for a sweet treat or a delicious lunch, go to try these local favorites!”
These local favorites are a must-visit for any True T-Bird:
Bulloch Drug | 91 N Main Street
A vintage soda fountain, an array of boutiques, hard scoop ice cream and candy of every color and type… Bulloch Drug is THE place to hang out on Main Street in Cedar City!
Stop by and try the T-Bird (3/4 red cream soda & 1/4 vanilla and coconut syrup)
Brick House Cafe | 86 S Main Street
This eatery is a popular destination for great food (the Sweet Potato Fries are amazing) and isn’t far from downtown! They offer an array of burgers, sandwiches, and other items. However, we recommend the Thunder Bird (grilled chicken and bacon with bell pepper, mushrooms, onions, and three cheeses, lettuce, tomato, honey mustard, and mayo on a toasted french roll).
Policy King’s Brewery | 223 N 100 W
Cedar City’s first brewery is owned by SUU Alumni and they sure know how to show school pride! With board games and drinks this is a great place to stop and hang out.
To celebrate homecoming week order a T-Bird, pomegranate gin and tonic.

Charlie’s Southern Barbecue | 126 N Main Street
Charlie’s is famous for its frycho, the Thunder Bird is worth a try! Delicious fried cauliflower, a fun and laid back atmosphere and some incredible food make Charlie’s a great spot to hang out with friends or family.
The Thunder Bird is a half pork/half brisket sandwich that pairs perfectly with fried cauliflower.
Slurps Up | 710 W 200 N
Slurps Up is a local soda hut that offers frozen coffee, shaved ice, flavored sodas, and more! Pick something from the menu or create something of your own.
Make sure to try the T-Bird (Dr. Pepper, raspberry puree, coconut, and cream).
Paint your face, wear red, and join the Thunder Crew
The Southern Utah University Student Section has school spirit to spare and their own Instagram account! This crew is the life of the party at games. Learn the school song, join the crew, and help them bring the Thunder at the homecoming game Saturday night as the T-Birds face Cal Poly.
Hike Through Thunder Bird Gardens to Thor’s Hideout
Is there a better way to start your weekend than with a hike? Get up close and personal with the iconic red rocks of Southern Utah as you take the Thor’s Hideout trail. With a disc golf course and some incredible views Thunderbird Gardens is an ideal place to spend an afternoon.
